Firstly happy birthday to my mum! Sending a big hug your way Muzz!
Staying on that theme I’d like to talk about birthdays. Christmas Day is often celebrated as being Jesus’ birthday! Now for most of us we celebrate our birthday with family and or friends; we are given gifts; and most likely a birthday cake.
But what on earth can you give to the One who holds the whole world in His hands? Good news! There is no need to scour the internet or ‘rack your brain’. The answer is easy! 1 Chronicles 16:28-29 (NCV) implores us to: “Praise the LORD, all nations on earth. Praise the LORD’s glory and power; praise the glory of the LORD’s name. Bring an offering and come to him. Worship the LORD because he is holy.”
So that’s easy right? Maybe not! For some people Christmas can be a harsh reminder of sad events; it can be an incredibly lonely time; it can be stressful; and extremely busy!
Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out? Heavy-laden? Feeling overburdened? Carrying a heavy load? God calls you to himself! He alone can ease; relieve; refresh your soul; and grant you real rest. Walk and work with Him by accepting His teachings and you will live freely and lightly! (Matthew 11:28-30 AMPC, MSG & NCV paraphrased)
This verse promises that Jesus can take those heavy burdens from your heart so that you can praise the Lord. Then you can bring Him an offering – there may be something (or many things) that you need to lay down at Jesus’ feet. Something that you’re struggling with.
Jesus came to bring us salvation – the gift of eternal life. But he also came so that we can have what we need for this life, right now, right here. So know that Jesus came to save, to heal and to make you whole!
Ephesians 2:8-10 promises that we receive grace from God, his unmerited favor, when we believe. That this wonderful grace is a gift, we cannot earn it by striving in our own efforts. We are created as God’s workmanship, born anew, so that we can complete the good works God predestined for us. Taking the path He prepared for us, leads us to living the good life. NCV & AMPC paraphrased
This Christmas I pray that you can truly lay down those heavy burdens so that you can celebrate. I pray that God will bless you with His joy and peace so that you can fully embrace the wonderful day.
